Zach Gold began his photography career after graduating from Parsons School of Design in 1995. Only two years later he was selected by the New York Art Directors Club as one of the top 100 artists in New York City under 35 and by now his distinguished style and innovative approaches towards photography and filmmaking have attracted some of the biggest names in the creative industries. Among others, Gold has collaborated with David Bowie, David Beckham, Iggy Pop, Iman, Lebron James and has exhibited in the United States, France, Portugal, Ireland, Spain, Italy and the United Arab Emirates. Thereto he co-created The Playground with stylist Julie Ragolia; an independent collective that explores and celebrates the experiential relationship between fashion and art through exhibition, installation, and custom artwork collections. We can’t wait to see what his next step will be.

Jen Stark (born 1983 in Miami, Florida) is a contemporary artist who both draws and animates, but what really makes her stand out are her intriguing paper sculptures inspired by wormholes, microscopic patterns and sliced anatomy.
Through her mandala-like art she raises questions about spirituality, replication and infinity, echoing patterns and intelligent designs found in nature. She has exhibited her works in various galleries around the U.S. like the Girls’ Club Collection, the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami. She was also the proud recipient of the prestigious South Florida Cultural Consortium’s Visual and Media Artists Fellowship in 2008.

German Cathleen Naundorf graduated from photography studies in Munich and, after some years as a photo assistent in New York, Singapore and Paris, she started photographing for the Süddeutsche Zeitung with a fashion page of her own, as well as for Glamour and Vogue, for which she was commissioned to take pictures backstage at the Paris fashion shows. Since 2005, Naundorf has worked on her haute couture series “Un rêve de mode” focusing on six couture houses: Chanel, Dior, Gaultier, Lacroix, Elie Saab and Valentino. Thanks to her outstanding pictures, Cathleen Naundorf got the privilege to choose gowns from the couturiers’ archives for her elaborate and cinematic productions and she was also granted free choice of models, locations and hair and make-up designers. A publication of her haute couture series is scheduled for spring this year.

ADVANCED STYLE

In BlogLove, Fashion on 20 febrero 2012 at 7:57

New York-based Ari Seth Cohen’s blog Advanced Style is definitely on my top ten inspirational list. Like so many other bloggers he writes about fashion and streetstyle, but instead of hunting 18-year-old girls in Lita shoes he turns his camera and attention to a group on a whole different level. Advanced Style is dedicated to the eldery; ladies and gentlemen in their 70′s, 80′s or even 90′s who have seen countless trends come and go and been around long enough to develop a true way of expression and highly personal style. Fashion at its best in other words!

MARK POWELL

In Art, beauty on 17 febrero 2012 at 9:33

London-based artist Mark Powell uses old envelopes as a canvas for these delicately rendered portraits of the elderly and animals, made with nothing more than a standard Bic Biro pen to create the delicate details. Since graduating from Huddersfield University, in which he accidentally enrolled himself onto the fine art course, Powell has had shows across the UK and the USA as well as developed a highly personal style. We love it!

RYAN MCGINLEY

In Photography on 16 febrero 2012 at 9:03

Youth, liberation and the joy of losing yourself in the moment are elements that feature throughout American photographer Ryan McGinley’s work, from his early roots in documenting the urban adventures of his downtown Manhattan friends to his subsequent cross-country travels in utopian environments throughout America to his most recent studio portraits. McGinley’s elaborate and rigorous process of photo-making creates moments of breathtaking beauty: naked feral kids poised in ecstatic abandon. The lack of clothing and other contemporary signifiers along with the archetypical landscapes give the photos a sense of timelessness in which the viewer can project his or her own story.

HANDIEDAN

In Art, Digital Design on 15 febrero 2012 at 7:30

Handiedan is the monicker of Hanneke Treffers, a media artist, doodler and designer who lives in Amsterdam. Her mixed media artworks are a delicate cut and paste mixture wrapped in contemporary antiquity. She meticulously combines classic pin-ups and movie images with paint, ink, yellowed sheet music, old fashioned playing cards, money, stamps, Chinese papers, old wood, rusty metal and doodles as a playful mixture of filigree and a newfangled amalgamation of imagery. Yummy!

KEHINDE WILEY

In Art, Contemporary on 14 febrero 2012 at 7:58

Born in LA, living and working in New York, Kehinde Wiley is famous for his realistic portraits of men of mostly African and African-American origin. The theatrical poses and objects in his portraits are based on well-known images of powerful figures drawn from seventeenth- through nineteenth-century Western art whose authority Wiley gives to his twenty-first-century subjects. Initially, Wiley’s portraits were based on photographs taken of young men found on the streets of Harlem. As his practice grew, his eye led him toward an international view, including models found in urban landscapes throughout the world – such as Mumbai, Senegal, Dakar and Rio de Janeiro, among others – accumulating to a vast body of work called, “The World Stage.” In October 2011, Wiley received the Artist of the Year Award from the New York City Art Teachers Association/United Federation of Teachers. He also received Canteen Magazine’s Artist of the Year Award.

ASHKAN HONAVAR

In Art on 13 febrero 2012 at 9:13

Artistic statement:
The saying goes that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. It occurs in places you least expect. Revealing its art in the human body, but also cruelly absent in the presence of deformations and scars. Ashkan Honarvar (1980) depicts an undeniable, unavoidable beauty by accepting the darker sides of human ‘nature’. The body, torn by acts of war, exploited by the sex industry or used as a tool for seeking identity, is the focal point of his work. This constitutes a search for a universal representation of the evil latent in every human, providing an opportunity for reflection. His aesthetic dissection has an intriguing macabre nature, which opens the images to interpretation. Honarvar’s almost empiric exploration of the human condition knows no bounds. Its goal; the indefinable core.
Iranian artist Ashkan Honarvar currently lives and works in The Netherlands

HAROSHI

In Art on 9 febrero 2012 at 8:05

Japanese artist Haroshi began skating in his early teens, and is still a passionate skater at present. Since he never liked throwing away his old crashed skateboards he decided to do something with them instead and this is the result. Amazing wooden art entirely made from old recycled skateboards. To Haroshi, his three-dimensional pieces are equal to his beloved skateboards, and that means they are his life itself. They serve as his communication tool with both himself, and the outside world. Pure dedication, that is!
