TOMÁS SARACENO

Argentinian artist Tomás Saraceno is the man behind the visionary exhibition ‘Cloud Cities’ at the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin. Inspired by soap bubbles and the incredible strength and flexibility of spider webs, he has created a plastic garden that hangs in the air. Visitors are invited to interact with the installation, so if in Berlin don´t miss out on this change to float around in giant three-dimentional bubbles.
The exhibition will be on until February 19th, 2012.

Nicole Dextras is an environmental artist working in a multitude of media including sculpture, interactive public installation and photography. She graduated from the Emily Carr University of Art in Vancouver, Canada, where she also has been working as a sessional teacher for the past 8 years. A part from teaching she has created art installations in as diverse places as Mongolia, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Dawson City YT and Bellevue WA. She has been awarded both Canada Council and BC Arts Council grants and her work has been published in numerous publications such as ELLE Canada and My Green City, published by Gestalten, Berlin. Yes, sir!

Lola Dupré is a artist and illustrator currently working near Avignon in the south of France. Using paper, scissors and glue she disassembles and assembles photographs into meticulously, contoured mosaic-like collages. Wow wow wow!

Based in Lawrence, Kansas, 25-year-old photographer and video director Niel Krug has already made a great reputation for himself. His work often touches on a rough, vintage, psychedelic feel as he talently captures the simple beauty of
landscapes as well as the female form. Over the years he has collaborated with bands such as My Chemical Romance, Ratatat, Devendra Banhart, Ladytron, The Horrors and First Aid Kit among others. What you see up here though are three photographs from his series ‘Children of the Light’. Yummy!

Jaume Osman Granda is a graphic designer, illustrator and web designer from Vilanova i la Geltrú, a small town near Barcelona, Spain. After he had completed his studies in multimedia programming he started working as a web designer and was later hired by Gominola as a flash programmer. After a couple of years he moved onto motion and started working for the Multipase studio, specialized in designing visuals for dance clubs. Further down the road, he started to work for the Barcelona-based studio Pornographics, where he spent two more years doing a little bit of everything, until he got tired of Barcelona and went back to his home town where he keeps on delivering amazing designs.

‘Papier’ is a collection of bags made of paper. Yes, let me repeat; paper! The designers behind it is a married couple from Germany, Stefan Diez, furniture designer, and Saskia Diez who makes beautiful jewellery. When making their collection they began with pointing out the basic requirements of a travel bag – durability, protection and light weight – and sought for an appropriate material other than the traditional choices of leather and reinforced textiles. They found Tyvek®, a synthetic paper that is super light but at the same time extremely robust. In addition it’s also waterproof, tearproof and 100% recyclable. Boy, do I want one!

The first time I saw one of Kelly Allen’s creations I was sure I was looking at a collage. It contained, in no particular order, brown pears, a roaring tiger, vibrant colourful objects, plants, tiny bees and red shiny Christmas balls. Ahn Sun Mi is a young Korean photographer who lives and works in Paris. Through her self portraits she invites the viewer to her private universe where the bounderies between dream and reality are difficult to find. Slightly surrealistic, very much imaginative and completely delicious.

Javier Piñon was born in Miami but grew up in sunny Texas. Nowadays he lives and works in Brooklyn,New York where he has made himself a name on the art scene with his amazing seamless collages filled with classical mythology and christian iconography. He is married to New York- based clothes designer Mara Hoffman, and togheter they sure make a booming couple.

MARIA APARICIO

What you see up here is the stunning work of Chilean artist Maria Aparicio who is currently based in Barcelona, Spain. All of these pieces are collaborations with various photographers who supply the images and Aparicio herself is the mastermind behind the embroidery.
