New York-based Ari Seth Cohen’s blog Advanced Style is definitely on my top ten inspirational list. Like so many other bloggers he writes about fashion and streetstyle, but instead of hunting 18-year-old girls in Lita shoes he turns his camera and attention to a group on a whole different level. Advanced Style is dedicated to the eldery; ladies and gentlemen in their 70′s, 80′s or even 90′s who have seen countless trends come and go and been around long enough to develop a true way of expression and highly personal style. Fashion at its best in other words!

Brosmind is a studio based in Barcelona founded by Juan and Alejandro Mingarro in 2006. Their style is fresh and optimistic and always combines fantasy and humour. The brothers have work for clients such as Nike, Microsoft, Virgin, Gillette, Honda, Land Rover, Volkswagen… but their universe is not fully understood without their personal artistic projects, like Brosmind Army, Brosmind RV and Brosmind City.

Danish bicycle brand Sögreni build all their bikes by hand and adjust them to perfection. Therefore, a Sögreni bicycle is not only an effective means of transportation, but considered an object of contemporary art. The careful assembling is done by three people in the Sögreni workshop in the centre Copenhagen and every customer is offered tailormade adjustments to satisfy personal needs and riding style. Jack Addis is a young artist who lives and works in Bristol, UK. He just graduated the other year from Bath School of Art and Design but he has already made a name for himself in the artworld. His portraits are broken, manipulated, glitched and then collaged back together to create a conflict of identity. An exciting visual strategy, that also explores our current socio-political landscape.

Where one might only see ugly potholes and cracks Juliana Santacruz Herrera uses the grey asphalt as her canvas to create wonderful street art. By using bright yarns and fabrics, she braids and weaves site-specific pieces, injecting some colour into the urban landscape of Paris where she lives. Mon Dieu!

Dutch Scarlett Hooft Graafland graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in Hague in 1999. She then completed postgraduate studies in Belzalel, Jerusalem and a Master’s in sculpture at Parsons, New York. But, what really has caught the world’s eyes are not her sculptures but her photographs. Graafland is fascinated by remote, unusual and sometimes even inhospitable locations which she documents with her analogue camera. She then prints them straight from the negative and never uses Photoshop. Some places she has gone are Salar de Uyunu in the Bolivian Andes, the largest salt desert in the world and the Arctic plains of northern Canada where she travelled with the Inuit across the sea ice of Igloolik. She has also taken photographs of Southern China and the lava fields of Iceland.

David Cook is a self-taught artist from Luisville, Kentucky who is currently based in Brooklyn, New York. His most recent artistic development is the integration of colour, something quite amazing considering that he is colourblind. What you see up here are three happy drawings from his latest series that he made for a show at the White Walls Gallery in San Francisco. They are based around the ideas of sex, violence, love and giant snakes that turn into rainbow boners.
